Arlo Parks
“I did like a few smaller shows at this venue called the Basement Door in Richmond, where a lot of younger kids who were trying to form bands or just starting off in music would be allowed to play. So I played there for a bit. It was mainly open mics. All these kind of little venues and little opportunities really built me up to the position where I could be playing at something like [Brighton multi-venue festival] The Great Escape... it definitely provided the foundations for my life journey”. - Interview from Independent Venue Week 2021.
Arlo was part of The Basement Door in 2017. On 11 May 2021, Parks won the Breakthrough Artist Award at the 2021 Brit Awards. On 9 September, the album Collapsed in Sunbeams won the Hyundai Mercury Prize for Album of the Year. Presenting the award, judge Annie MacManus said: "We chose an artist with a singular voice who uses lyrics of remarkable beauty ... and connects deeply with her generation as she does so".

Lighting Technician
Seamus
In their own words:
“From the get go I loved The Basement Door. One of the benefits of The Basement Door is to be able to meet people in the industry...I got to meet people, network and start working. From not knowing very much I can now set up a PA system, operate sound consoles, operate the
lighting consoles and with those skills I have been able to get a job in the industry at a lighting company. Without that experience I wouldn’t have had the confidence to even
apply at a place like that.”
“Since joining the Basement Door, Seamus has found work at a leading lighting company and working at events including Glastonbury in 2023”.
Back Stage Crew
Chris
In their own words:
“The Basement Door has helped me in many different ways. Its helped me socially and with my confidence as you get to meet a lot of new people. The Basement Door has given me quite a few different opportunities, mainly with training. I did some barista training and security and general customer service roles which led me to my first job working [in hospitality] at Twickenham Stadium”.
“I would always recommend The Basement Door to anyone just because it has such great vibes. It feels like such as nice place to hang out either socially or as a crew member. I still hang out with the guys I worked with at The Basement Door.”
